Foliage can make its way from your roof and gutters into your tank and collect on the bottom, or stay somewhat afloat leading to plugged filters or even if enough debris, can lead to brown or black water. Removing this organic material can help prolong your filter life and help to reduce disinfection by-products from shock chlorinating your tank.
