Trim Your Cutting

Previous | Home | Next

  • In this step you will trim your selected prime cutting. If your plant is fruiting or flowering, you will want to remove the fruit and flowers at this point. This is a necessary step because the production of flowers and fruit take away necessary energy from your new cutting to produce roots. You will want to remove the branches and foliage from the bottom part of the plant, so that you have 1-3 nodes that will be ready to grow new roots. The top part of your foliage should be trimmed to a minimum amount to help keep the plant from being over-stressed while rooting. This can be done by cutting leaves in half with a sharp clean razor blade, or by removing the entire leaf. Remember if you cut too much off your plant wont root as well or will die before roots show. Leaving too much on will come to the same results. This is a step that comes with plant type and practice.
